Waggon at Hale

Tucked in the small hamlet of Hale, you are guaranteed a warm welcome at this family-friendly establishment, a traditional country pub independently run by Emma Pearson and her vibrant team.

Earliest records show the Waggon at Hale was in business in 1855, possibly earlier after being a coach house for many years.  As you pull up outside, its historic grandeur is still very evident and this follows through inside where you will find an open fire and charming traditional surroundings.

With so many good-quality Kent Breweries it would be odd not to have Kent Ale on the bar! They are proud to offer at least one at all times that can be enjoyed in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

There are plenty of tables for dining (it is planned to extend The Waggon restaurant with a new conservatory in the near future). The menu features a wide range of fine home-cooked dishes and snacks, whether you choose to eat in the restaurant or in the pub itself. There is also a range of chalk-board specials that change daily dependent on local supply. Everything is beautifully prepared and presented using local produce.

Soak up the sun in the large beer garden where your children can play safety in the kid’s play area or enjoy the small animal farm, which includes micro pigs, a goat, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs, and let‘s not forget ‘Onions’ the pub dog.

Within striking distance of many attractions – including Chatham Historic Dockyard, Fort Amherst and Dickens World – this pub is in an ideal spot for lunch during a day out. Walkers will also take pleasure in its location close to the North Downs.

Whether you are looking for a fine dining experience or quality pub food you will be sure to find what you want at the Waggon at Hale.
