The Queens Arms, East Garston

This is horse-racing country and it’s not just the stables that house pure-breeds; this picturesque 18th-century inn is as authentic as they come. Lambourn’s horse-racing heritage is such that at any time of day owners, trainers and jockeys can be found discussing the day’s sport in the bar at the Queen’s Arms.

Candles, a log burning stove and paintings displayed on the rustic walls create an intimate atmosphere that is ideal for relaxing over a pint of cask ale, glass of wine or what ever your favourite tipple may be. Leading off is the inviting dark-panelled dining room, incorporating tried and tested oak tables and an endearing mixture of chairs. The restaurant's ethos of creating delicious yet simple dishes focusing on local produce and the seasons is always met with great approval. The large garden, terrace and vine-covered canopy outside allow guests to fully enjoy the tranquil village setting.

The recently refurbished luxury bedrooms, including two interconnecting family rooms, are decorated in a time-honoured style featuring Egyptian cotton sheets and comfy throws on the beds and interesting artwork on the walls. All the rooms are named after racing legends and country bands. The bathrooms are particularly impressive with their large walk-in showers. For a leisure or business, there is a private lodge that is an ideal base for that activity-filled weekend.
