The Milk House

Situated in picturesque Sissinghurst, The Milk House is a village pub at the heart of the community with a relaxing open-plan bar, informal dining room and beautiful bedrooms.

Cool and sophisticated, The Milk House has been cleverly styled to retain its former 16th-century roots with old timber beams and a Tudor fireplace.

The name recalls Sissinghurst's former name Milkhouse Street, which changed after a local 19th-century smuggling gang brought it unwanted notoriety. The decoration suits the name, with creamy white and pale moss colours and country furniture.

Young and vibrant staff welcome loyal locals along with visitors from further afield, who feast on a selection of local beers, cask ales and great wines by the glass, including several from the area's renowned vineyards.

Chef and owner Dane prides himself on keeping superb food simple by working with the seasons and using the freshest ingredients sourced from local suppliers to create a menu with something for everyone.

In addition to the range of classic pub fare - available to enjoy in front of a crackling fire during winter or on the sun-soaked terrace in the summer - the Dining Room offers a more adventurous menu. Sunday Lunch includes a choice of delicious roasts.

The garden is a great place to while away the summer months, home to a traditional wood-fired pizza oven serving homemade pizzas, perfect for sharing around a large community table.

For those who want to spend a little more time in the village, The Milk House also has four beautifully appointed bedrooms. These spacious and light rooms are aptly named Dairy, Churn, Byre and Buttery. All boast extremely comfortable beds, luxurious en suite bathrooms, toiletries by local company Romney Marsh Wools and scenic views of the village and surrounding orchards.

Sissinghurst is one of the most picturesque corners of Kent, the perfect place for a family day out with the historic castle and gardens just half a mile’s walk from the pub.
