The Griffin, Fletching, West Sussex

The Griffin is a proper local pub with a truly authentic feel that is matched by few other establishments. Family run with great passion, a devoted crowd flock to the well-stocked bar for real ales as local as they can be. The Griffin’s down-to-earth scruffiness is a delight – a plethora of original wooden beams, oak furniture and prints on the walls enhanced against rich red carpet.

Only the finest seasonal produce, including Rye and Fletching lamb, go into the exciting a la carte menu that covers all spectrums of world cuisine. A wood oven on the terrace adds warmth in the winter for eating outside, but also acts as the hub around which crowds gather for spit roast barbeques in summer. To see the locals in action, why not support the pubs cricket teams who gather in the club room to toast victory following a game on a summer weekend?

Bedrooms are situated both in the pub itself, and in neighbouring buildings for those looking for a more secluded stay. Uncluttered and displaying elegant rustic charm, the walls are painted in soft colours and the beds made up with crisp white linen. Free-standing Victorian baths with huge shower heads are in keeping with the style of the period furniture. All are equipped with mod-cons including IPOD docs, DVD players and flat-screen TVs, and other thoughtful extras such as fluffy bathrobes and handmade soap.

Rooms: 13 rooms all individually designed, most with 4-posters, as befits the age of the building.
