The Greyfriar

Whether you want to dine out on locally sourced food or simply want a great pint of real ale in a charming Hampshire village pub, The Greyfriar certainly fits the bill. Situated in the picturesque Hampshire village of Chawton, opposite the world-famous Jane Austen House Museum – which attracts around 40,000 visitors per year – The Greyfriar prides itself on being a particularly child- and dog-friendly pub.

This quintessential, 16th-century wood-beamed inn is the type of place where time seems to have stood still, where you can easily while away the hours over a great pint complemented by some excellent home-made food. Run by Fran and Trevor, supported by their ever-smiling staff, you can expect the kind of old-fashioned service that time long forgot.

The lovely garden with its southerly aspect is a real sun trap, and in spring and early summer the roses are a spectacular sight to behold; enjoy eating alfresco and then take a country stroll through the Hampshire countryside that Jane Austen knew so well.
