Greyhound Inn

The Greyhound is a great example of a proper English village inn, where community comes together and all visitors from near and far are made to feel welcome.

Sitting in a pretty downland village, this Grade II listed building dates back to 1709 but has served as a public house since 1870. The building’s claim to fame is that it was the last place in the UK for the Riot Act to be read, in the early 1900s.

Whether you are dropping in just for a quick drink or a snack, wanting to read the paper or catch up with friends, or planning to linger over a lovely meal, the welcoming ambience created by the host and her knowledgeable staff make this the ideal place to relax in. Being a free house, the bar boasts four constantly changing real ales and a large range of delicious wines.

The award-winning chef and his team have a reputation for creating delicious and imaginative food. Everything on the menu, which is Inspired by the seasons, is homemade and freshly cooked, based on the best locally sourced ingredients.

The Greyhound is the perfect place to escape to the country for a break away from it all. Unwind in one of the eight individually decorated guest rooms named after local places of interest − Ridgeway, Oxford, Lambourn. All have very comfortable hand-made pocket-spring Hypnos beds and luxury bathrooms stocked with handmade products. In the morning, get the day off to great start with an excellent freshly made, heart-warming breakfast.
