Drusilla's Inn

This adorable thatched pub originally started life as a row of 17th-century farm cottages before being transformed into the delightful establishment it is today.  The charming front entrance, with its low-hanging thatched porch, is decorated with hanging baskets. Tables are provided for alfresco dining so you can enjoy uninterrupted views over the rolling Dorset countryside, with Holt Tower – a 17th-century folly – towering in the distance.

Intimate and cosy immediately comes to mind as you walk through the door. Wobbly walls, low ceilings, open fires, exposed beams and horse brasses all add to Drusilla’s olde-worlde charm. Leading off the main bar is an amazing round restaurant, where you can enjoy simply delicious, freshly prepared food using local and hand-reared produce. All the sauces and soups are homemade using fresh stock and no thickening agents.  The food is complimented by Cask Marque local ales and ciders and an international wine list.

Beside the large car park at the rear is a fenced beer garden with additional picnic benches. Friendly staff are more than happy to recommend goods walks in the area should you require a stroll after lunch, or after dinner on a summer’s evening.

For B & B with a difference, stay in one of Drusilla’s quirky luxury shepherd’s huts, situated in the paddock surrounded by fields full of sheep. Each hut sleeps two adults (with room for a cot) and provides the ultimate rustic glamping experience, but with all the essential home comforts – including hot showers and flushing toilets (so no need to brave the elements in the middle of the night armed with a torch).  They are warm and cosy with heating, king-sized beds, dazzling white sheets, cosy duvets, fluffy towels, and soft fleecy blankets. Little thoughtful extras include umbrellas and torches and in summer outside furniture and a fire cage are provided so you can sit out under the stars and toast marshmallows. The ultimate romantic break!

Shepherd’s huts are a traditional feature of the Dorset rural landscape and have been used since 1596 – perhaps not always with king-sized beds and toilets though!  These huts have been lovingly built by craftsmen using traditional methods and are named after breeds of local sheep – Dorset Down and Horn and Poll.  Inside the decor reflects a “sheep” theme – the huts even have their own shepherd’s crooks.
